Laser Skin Resurfacing

What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Glowing vibrant skin is now possible with CO2 Laser Systems. Laser resurfacing can help restore the youthful appearance to wrinkled, sun-damaged skin. Laser skin resurfacing at Xage Medical Spa is a nonsurgical aesthetic treatment that uses CO2.

The outer layers of damaged skin are ablated by laser, while the lower layers are toned, for a smoother, firmer look. Sometimes called a laser peel, laser skin resurfacing is an effective facial treatment for people who want more youthful-looking skin. Depending on the needs of your complexion, our medical professionals will customize your treatment for the best results.

There is some downtime required for most laser skin resurfacing treatments. 2-3 days for Erbium and 7 days for an aggressive CO2. Set aside some time for a private consultation for laser skin resurfacing with Dr. Porter today.

Expert Care That Puts You First

Our board-certified physician, Dr. Stuart B. Porter, performs laser skin resurfacing for his patients himself at Xage Medical Spa. You may have skin issues such as acne scars, hyperpigmentation, poor texture, or other conditions that have changed the look and feel of your skin. Sun exposure, stress, pollution, gravity, and the loss of elastin and collagen in our skin can significantly diminish its appearance and health.

Ideal Candidates

You have several factors to consider when deciding which laser procedure is best for your skin. The CO2 laser, today’s most popular skin resurfacing laser, is an aggressive option for laser skin resurfacing. It is ideal for those who want significant and immediate change in skin texture and tone and have a few days of downtime to recover from the treatment. Less invasive laser resurfacing options include radio frequency resurfacing for improved skin appearance with less downtime.

Laser skin resurfacing is designed for people who are unhappy with their general complexion. Laser resurfacing is best for treating visible sun damage, acne scars, age spots and pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.

This treatment works well for patients who have rough texture, scaly patches, pigmentation concerns or other irregularities. Laser resurfacing isn’t recommended if you have very dark skin or active acne outbreaks.

In addition, it is important to know that there is a recovery period associated with laser resurfacing. Certain patients, depending on their skin condition, may require as much as 2+ weeks for recovery.

Our Laser Skin Resurfacing Technique

Let our laser treatments reveal your natural beauty a licensed medical professional can rejuvenate your aging skin with his skillful skin resurfacing techniques. Once you are prepared for your treatment, the medical professional will use the laser to work on specific areas like Crow’s feet, brow lines, nasolabial folds, and forehead wrinkles.

01

Evaluation

If your skin needs mild improvement, a topical anesthetic will be used to numb certain areas where the laser will target. For the full-face session or more intense laser treatments on specific areas, some type of sedation may be necessary in the forms of oral medication given at the time of service, or Pronox if necessary.

02

Procedure

During the procedure, you will relax in our treatment chair while the laser passes over your skin. You will feel the warm heat from the laser followed by cold air from the system’s built-in cooling device. The laser will work to destroy damaged and dead skin cells while also promoting new collagen production.

What To Expect

Your treated skin may appear pink and there may be some swelling and irritation present. This should subside in a few days and the skin peeling process would occur over a 4 – 6 day timeframe.

If you are undergoing a more intense laser treatment, your recovery period will last longer. The treated areas may be protected with dressings and the swelling, burning, and irritation side effects will be more intense. Medication can be prescribed to minimize these side effects.

The downtime for intense laser treatment may last several weeks. Regardless of the depth of the laser peel, all laser skin resurfacing patients need to minimize their UV exposure before and after their treatment and apply sunscreen regularly.

Treated skin will naturally crust, flake, and peel off. It is important to protect your skin from sun exposure. Once the peeling is completed, the treated skin will feel softer while appearing rejuvenated, clearer, and younger.
